Amitabha Bagchi
Amitabha Bagchi
Amitabha Bagchi is an Indian novelist and professor of computer science at IIT Delhi. His acclaimed second novel Unknown City — set in the Delhi of the Emergency and its aftermath — tells the story of an unlikely friendship between a civil servant and a poor migrant, and won the Sahitya Akademi Award for English writing in 2022.
Bagchi writes sparse, quietly devastating fiction about class, urban memory and national history. His other novel This Place, Story of a Muslim Family weaves Partition into family history, and his fiction, praised by the Booker-winning French readers for its calibrated restraint, places him among the most remarkable contemporary Indian novelists.
