A Game of Chance

On the same day that FBI Special Agent Dana Whitestone is released from hospital following a harrowing life-and-death struggle with a demented serial killer known as The Cleveland Slasher, she is thrust right back into the fray. Christian Manhoff, a 'super-fan' of the Cleveland Browns u the blue-collar city's professional football team u is discovered lying dead in the middle of a downtown street with a large bone shoved down his throat. And now someone has broken into the County Coroner's Office while Manhoff's dead body is awaiting autopsy and attached a photograph of The Cleveland Slasher to the corpse. Dana begins looking into the case, but before she has a chance to catch her breath and get the investigation properly under way, she is violently sidetracked by an event that threatens to destroy everything that she's worked so hard for over all these years. For Nicholas Preston is on a mission. He believes fame should come at a cost, especially what he considers undeserved fame. Striking during hurricanes, blizzards and other natural disasters, when law-enforcement resources are already stretched to the point of snapping, Preston considers his targets' lives as reality-TV stars, jet-setting heiresses and talentless pop singers to be an affront to what true fame should mean. By drawing on Dana Whitestone's celebrity as the most talked-about FBI agent in recent memory, this murderous modern-day Holden Caulfield won't rest until the phonies are eliminated and his own name is up in lights.
