Civil Society and the Process of Democratization in Post-soviet Russia
"Civil Society Initiatives in the Process Of Democratization in Post-Soviet Russia" is a study of those initial years when new Russia adopted a democratic form of government. After the collapse of communist Soviet Russia, everyone from a common citizen to government officials, from media to academicians, were in dilemma about the faith and future of democratic Russia. This was a transition period for post-Soviet Russia. In this process of democratization, the small move of civil society activities started giving new medium to the Russian people. A civil society functioning in Russia is not vibrant and effective today in comparison to Western and Asian democratic countries. Nevertheless, the initiatives were taking place in Russia. Though it is taking small baby steps now, one can see that it will make a giant move in the coming years. My book is about the initiatives of civil society; its functioning and its small achievements struggle of civil societies to establish themselves as organizations or help group. It's a journey for me to understand that even in a country like Russia, civil society activities are not considered important. The government is whole sole authority to take decisions, form policies and implement them through their channels; saying of various sectors of society is not obligatory and is considered an important factor. Certain apathy was also found in Russian people. If one needs a functioning democracy, one cannot overlook the efficacy and urgency of civil society. The youth, women; men, laborers, artists, academicians, media, and religious set ups, all are important variables of civil society. The vibrancy of civil society can be counted in the form of associations, organizations, unions, clubs, think tanks, pressure groups, research groups, and presentations in the form of performing arts, theater, drama, paintings, and so on. All are strong mediums to build a bridge between the government and the common people. Their opinions and expression should be given due importance. The government is just an agency; it should have a generalist and uniform attitude for all. If any province, region, any certain issues need special study, analysis, and requisite, civil society provides this platform, and acts as a channel between people with specific needs and government. This book takes us to that initial period when Russia was in transition, was trying to survive from the collapse of communism, and decided to walk on the path of democracy. In this book have fried to give justice as per my capacity and understanding to the selected topic. Thave enjoyed this academic journey; it has changed my concept of old Russia. I am happy while writing this brief and wish Russian civil society the best of luck; they have yet to achieve a lot.
