Monkey Music Magic Sounds

Monkey Music: Magic Sounds is an interactive early-years music book and CD pack for babies and young children, created around the award-winning Monkey Music class programme. Monkey and Mo guide children through songs, dances, sounds, and simple instrument play, inviting families to make music together at home, in the car, or in a group setting. The accompanying CD contains 20 sing-along songs, while the 20-page illustrated book provides activities and guidance for joining in with each musical experience. The programme is designed to build enjoyment and confidence through listening, singing, moving, rhythm, and imaginative play—not to teach formal music theory. Campbell Books published the title on 15 June 2017, and it is marketed for babies from around six months onward. Music-based play can make shared reading more active: for example, a caregiver and child might listen for a repeated sound, copy a rhythm by clapping, move with the beat, then use the book’s illustrations to talk about the instruments or characters involved. The book therefore works best as a participatory activity rather than a conventional storybook.
