Sputnik Sweetheart Vintage Classics

“Sputnik Sweetheart” is a slim, haunting novel about a love triangle between K, a quiet schoolteacher; his best friend Sumire, an aspiring novelist; and Miu, an older, enigmatic businesswoman whom Sumire adores. When Sumire vanishes on a small Greek island, K travels there at Miu’s request and uncovers Sumire’s fragmentary writings, strange events and hints of another reality, in a story that drifts between romance, mystery and metaphysical longing. In its Vintage Classics edition with the Time Out praise on the cover it’s well placed for searches like “Sputnik Sweetheart Murakami,” “unrequited love Murakami” and “surreal Japanese fiction.”
