The Elephant Whisperer Learning About Life Loyalty And Freedom From A Remarkable Herd Of Elephants

The Elephant Whisperer is Lawrence Anthony’s true account of taking in a doomed herd of “rogue” wild elephants on his Thula Thula game reserve in Zululand, South Africa. Deemed dangerous escape artists and scheduled to be shot, the traumatized elephants arrive furious, frightened, and determined to break free, forcing Anthony to risk his life to keep them safe and contained. By camping near them, speaking softly, and patiently earning the trust of the matriarch Nana, he slowly forges an extraordinary bond that transforms both the herd and his own life. Set against poaching threats, tribal politics, and the daily drama of African wildlife, the book reveals elephants’ deep loyalty, intelligence, and family bonds while celebrating conservation, courage, and cross‑species connection.
