The Holocaust An Unfinished History

The Holocaust: An Unfinished History is a major reassessment of the Nazi genocide of European Jews. Dan Stone challenges simplified accounts that focus only on concentration camps or portray the Holocaust as solely a German project, showing how mass murder also occurred through shootings, starvation, forced displacement, and local violence across Europe. Drawing on Nazi documents, diaries, survivor testimony, postwar accounts, and fiction, Stone examines the role of antisemitic ideology, widespread collaboration, trauma, memory, and the incomplete reckoning with Jewish suffering after 1945. The book argues that Holocaust history remains unfinished because its causes, consequences, and remembrance continue to demand attention.
