What is PDF text extraction?

Text extraction pulls the words stored inside a PDF out into plain, selectable text you can copy, search, translate or paste into an essay, email or spreadsheet. It is the quickest way to reuse information from a lecture PDF, notice or e-book without retyping it by hand.

How the tool reads your pages

A PDF stores text as thousands of tiny positioned fragments, not as flowing sentences. Our reader walks every page, groups fragments that share the same baseline, orders them left-to-right, and joins them into readable lines. Most single-column documents come out perfectly clean.

Scanned pages need OCR, not extraction

If a PDF is just a photo of a page - a scan, a phone camera shot or a fax - there is no hidden text to read, and this tool will tell you so. You then need OCR (optical character recognition) software that recognises the letters in the image and turns them into real text.

Reading order and complex layouts

Multi-column newsletters, side-by-side tables and magazine pages can confuse the left-to-right ordering, so a column may appear before the one beside it. For standard academic and report layouts this is rare. If order matters, paste the result into a word processor and tidy the few mixed lines.

Encoding and Nepali or Devanagari text

The extractor keeps the exact characters stored in the file and exports them as UTF-8, so Nepali and other Unicode scripts are preserved when the source PDF embedded them properly. If a PDF was created with a broken font, some glyphs may show as blanks - that is a problem in the source file, not the extraction.

What to do with the extracted text

Once extracted you can copy it to your clipboard, download it as a .txt file, or drop it into Word, Google Docs or a translator. It is handy for quoting a reference, building revision notes, or feeding text into another tool - all without leaving your browser.

What is an extract-text tool, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

An extract-text tool reads a PDF and pulls out the words so you can copy, edit or translate them. Scolar's Extract Text is free and browser-only: upload the PDF and get plain text. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The processing runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device and no account is needed. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you process unlimited documents.

How to extract text from a PDF, step by step

  • Upload the PDF containing the text.
  • The tool reads and extracts the words.
  • Copy or download the plain text.

Reusing PDF content in Nepal

Notice PDFs, government circulars and assignment sheets are often locked as images. Pulling the text in your browser lets a student quote a paragraph or a translator work offline - nothing leaves the device.

“A Nepali student should not pay to copy words out of a PDF. Upload, extract - free.”

Frequently asked questions

Is the text extraction free and private?

Yes. Extracting text from a PDF on Scolar is completely free with no sign-up, and the file is processed entirely inside your browser - nothing is uploaded. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.

Why did some pages come out empty or jumbled?

PDFs store text as positioned fragments, not sentences. Complex multi-column layouts can mix columns together. For most standard documents the reading order comes out clean. If a page looks wrong, paste it into a word processor to fix the few mixed lines. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.

It says no text was found - what now?

Scanned documents are pictures of pages, so there is no text to select. You need an OCR (optical character recognition) tool to convert scans into text. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.

Can I extract text from a password-protected PDF?

No. Unlock the file first (with the password you own), then use this tool. Password-protected PDFs cannot be read here for privacy and security reasons. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.

Does it keep Nepali and other Unicode text?

Yes, when the source PDF embedded the characters properly. The tool exports UTF-8, so Devanagari and other scripts are preserved. A PDF made with a broken font may show some glyphs as blanks - that is an issue in the source file. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.

Can I save the result as a file?

Yes. Besides copying to your clipboard, you can download the extracted content as a .txt file and open it anywhere. The download is built locally in your browser. Made for students in Nepal - 100% free, no watermark.
