One day of age, one career: how Loksewa really counts

Why a single day of birth decides who sits Nepal’s toughest exams, how the Public Service Commission turns your Bikram Sambat birthday into a verdict, and how borderline candidates legally stretch the calendar in their favour.

01 Why Loksewa cares about a single day

Every Lok Sewa Aayog advertisement carries three numbers that decide thousands of careers before a single question paper is printed: a minimum age, a maximum age, and a cutoff date. Your eligibility is not judged on application day or exam day — it is frozen on that printed date, measured in completed years against the window.

The doctrine is unforgiving arithmetic. Being 34 years and 11 months old on the cutoff passes a 35-year limit exactly as cleanly as being 30; turning 36 one day before it ends the attempt regardless of preparation. Candidates have lost a year of opportunity to a misremembered birthdate — which is why this tool computes to the day rather than rounding.

02 The BS calendar isn't a quirk — it's official

Nepal runs on Bikram Sambat. Citizenship certificates, SEE certificates, passports — the documents PSC will ask you to produce all record birth in BS, while most people can only guess their AD equivalent within weeks. Guess wrong in the wrong direction and you either disqualify yourself mentally from an open window or apply for one you cannot enter.

This tool takes the BS date exactly as printed on your certificate — Baisakh through Chaitra, 2000 to 2090 — and converts it through a complete calendar table before ageing you. No mental arithmetic, no lookup charts taped inside notebooks, no trusting a friend's app that rounds months.

03 Reading an advertisement like PSC does

Open any notice and find three fields: minimum age, maximum age, and the date until which age is computed. Kharidar notices typically open at 18; officer-level windows and technical cadres differ; upper limits move between roughly 35 and 40 depending on grade and service. None are universal — each notice defines its own universe.

That is why every input here is yours to set. Copy the three numbers straight from the advertisement into the tool and the verdict you see mirrors the one the commission will compute. The defaults exist only so a first-time visitor sees something sensible.

04 Relaxations you can model yourself

Nepali rules extend maximum ages for specified groups — disabled applicants, widows, conflict-affected families and similar statutory categories — typically by around five years, with exact terms stated in each notice or governing rule. The calculator does not guess your category; instead it hands you the lever: raise the maximum field by the relaxation you qualify for and re-run.

Serving temporary or contract government staff should also watch for separate provisions in individual advertisements. Where a notice grants its own extension, the same trick applies — adjust the maximum, keep everything else honest.

05 Strategy for borderline birthdays

If you sit within months of the ceiling, the calendar still has room for tactics. PSC runs multiple cycles across the year; a Section Officer notice published in Mangsir with a Poush cutoff may pass you one final time even though next year's first notice will not. Track cutoffs, not publication dates.

Conversely, candidates just under the minimum — fresh SEE or +2 graduates eyeing early attempts — learn exactly which future notice becomes their first legal shot. Knowing the date converts anxious waiting into a plan.

How people actually use it

The fresh graduate

Checking whether the Nayab Subba cycle opening next quarter falls inside their first legal window.

The borderline veteran

Working out which remaining notices still accept them before the maximum age closes the door.

The parent

Verifying a son’s or daughter’s eligibility from a citizenship-certificate BS date without converting calendars by hand.

The coaching counsellor

Screening an entire batch quickly, sending each student home with their real timeline instead of vague encouragement.

Why is this free?

Every conversion and comparison happens on your device — your birthdate never touches a server, because there is no server in the loop at all. The page works offline once loaded, from Kathmandu to a hostel in Dhangadhi.

Age decides who may even attempt Nepal's most competitive exams; information this consequential should never sit behind a paywall, a signup form or an ad-farm app that harvests personal details.

Free also means checkable: the maths is plain, the sources are cited, and if a figure ever drifts from the official notice, the advertisement itself remains the final word — clearly labelled as such throughout.

Typical windows, relaxation magnitudes and applicant volumes reflect commonly published PSC advertisement terms and annual reporting; individual notices govern. Always confirm the three decisive numbers against the official advertisement.

What is a Loksewa age calculator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A Loksewa age calculator works out your exact age, often from a Bikram Sambat birth date, against a public-service age limit. Scolar's tool is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: enter your B.S. or A.D. birth date and a reference date, and see your age instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The calculation runs on your device, so your birth date is never stored and no account is needed. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you check unlimited dates.

How to check Loksewa age, step by step

  • Enter your birth date in B.S. (Nepali) or switch to A.D.
  • Set the reference date (usually the notice closing date).
  • See your exact age and whether you meet the limit.

Loksewa age limits in Nepal

Public Service Commission notices set upper age limits that are checked to the day, and most applicants know their birthday in B.S. This tool converts and counts the exact years and months so a candidate in Kathmandu or a rural district can confirm eligibility before applying, offline after loading.

“A Loksewa candidate should not install a paid app to check an age limit. Enter the B.S. date - free.”

Why use this tool?

  • Statutory relaxations are not automatic - adjust the max age yourself where one applies.

Frequently asked questions

What are the usual Loksewa age limits?

Commonly 18 to about 35 years for general candidates, up to 40 in some cases - but each advertisement defines its own window and cutoff.

Which reference date should I use?

The cutoff date named in the advertisement (often the application deadline), not necessarily today.

Can I use my citizenship-certificate BS date?

Yes - BS mode accepts any date between 2000 and 2090 BS and converts it automatically.

I turn 36 after the cutoff. Do I qualify?

If you are within the limit on the cutoff date itself, you qualify for that notice regardless of later birthdays.

Are relaxations included?

No - raise the maximum manually where a relaxation (e.g. for disabled or widowed applicants) applies to you.
