JSON Viewer

Format messy JSON, catch syntax errors with line numbers, and browse the structure as a collapsible tree - all locally in your browser.

The tree view of your JSON appears here.

What is JSON?

JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight, text-based format for storing and exchanging structured data. It uses name/value pairs and ordered lists, which makes it the default choice for web APIs, configuration files, and NoSQL databases. Because it is plain text, both people and programs can read it.

Why pretty-print JSON?

JSON returned by APIs is often minified into a single line to save bytes, which is painful to read. Pretty-printing adds indentation and line breaks so you can scan an object’s structure, spot a missing comma, and understand the nesting at a glance. This tool re-indents your input with the standard two-space format.

Understanding validation errors

When JSON is invalid, the parser reports a failure and, where possible, the character position of the problem. We translate that position into the nearest line number so you can jump straight to it. Common culprits are trailing commas, unquoted keys, single quotes instead of double quotes, and mismatched braces or brackets.

Exploring data with the tree view

The interactive tree collapses and expands objects and arrays, so you can drill into large payloads without scrolling through thousands of lines. Every node shows its type and count - Object(3), Array(12) - so you can size up the shape of the data before reading individual values.

Format versus minify

Use Format to make JSON readable while keeping it valid and expanded. Use Minify to strip all whitespace and produce the compact form that servers expect in requests and responses. Both act on the same text you paste, so you can switch back and forth as needed.

Privacy and security

Everything happens in your browser. Your JSON is never sent to a server, logged, or stored - so you can safely paste tokens, API responses, or personal records. Clear the box or refresh the page and the data is gone from memory.

What is a JSON viewer, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A JSON viewer turns raw, often minified, JSON into readable, navigable structure. Scolar’s JSON Viewer is free and browser-only: paste your JSON, format or minify it, and browse it as a collapsible tree. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

Parsing and rendering happen on your device, so there is no server storing your data and no account to create. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you validate unlimited JSON files.

How to use the JSON viewer, step by step

  • Paste or type your JSON on the left - it validates as you type with a live status.
  • Use Format to pretty-print or Minify to compact, then explore the collapsible tree.
  • Copy the clean result or download it as a .json file when ready.

JSON in Nepal’s tech scene

From Kathmandu’s growing startup hubs to college CS labs, Nepali developers work with APIs and config files every day. A fast, free, offline-capable viewer means students and professionals can check payloads anywhere - even on a phone with weak data - without reaching for a paid desktop app.

“A Nepali developer should not install an app just to read JSON. Paste it here, see the tree — free.”

How it works

1

Paste or type your JSON on the left - it validates as you type with a live valid/invalid status.

2

Use Format to indent it, Minify to compact it, or Sample to load example data.

3

Browse the collapsible tree on the right, then Copy or download the result as a .json file.

Why use this tool?

  • Validation points to the exact line where parsing failed, so fixes are fast.

  • The tree view shows the type and count for every object and array at a glance.

  • Everything runs locally in your browser - nothing you paste leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

What is JSON and when do I need a viewer?

JSON is a plain-text format for structured data used by almost every web API and config file. A viewer helps you read, validate, and navigate that data when it arrives minified or malformed.

What does pretty-printing do?

Pretty-printing adds consistent indentation and line breaks so nested objects and arrays become easy to read, without changing the data itself.

Why does my JSON show a validation error?

Most errors come from trailing commas, unquoted or single-quoted keys, comments, or unbalanced braces and brackets. The tool points to the nearest line so you can fix it quickly.

Why use the tree view instead of raw text?

The collapsible tree lets you fold away irrelevant branches and focus on the part you care about, showing the type and size of every object and array along the way.

Is my data private?

Yes. Parsing, formatting, and rendering all run locally in your browser. Nothing you paste is uploaded, logged, or stored on any server.
