How used book prices work in Nepal
A used book on Scolar is typically listed at 30–60% below the printed MRP, depending on condition, demand and how recent the edition is. Slow-moving general titles and older novels sit at the larger discount; current school and university textbooks — the ones students actually need each intake — hold their value and discount less. Every price is shown in Nepali Rupees next to the original new price, so the saving is visible before you add to cart.
Condition is graded before a copy is listed. Good means a clean, complete book with light shelf wear and no missing pages. Acceptable means readable and complete but with visible wear — a cracked spine, a name on the flyleaf, or highlighting in a few chapters. Copies with missing pages, water damage or broken bindings are not sold. Photos on the listing show the actual copy where the difference matters.
Second-hand stock moves fastest in exam-preparation and course textbooks — Loksewa guides, +2 Science and Management sets, TU and PU semester books — because a used copy that costs half as much does the same job for one or two semesters. General reading, Nepali literature and children's books also turn up regularly as households clear shelves.
Delivery and payment are the same as for new books: dispatch to all 77 districts, cash on delivery available, and the standard 7-day exchange if the copy that arrives is not the condition described. If you want to sell your own used books through Scolar, contact us with the titles, editions and photos and we will quote a buy-back or consignment price.
Common questions
- Are used books on Scolar genuine editions?
- Yes. Every second-hand copy is an original publisher edition — never a photocopy or pirated print. It has simply been owned before.
- How much can I save versus a new copy?
- Usually between one-third and two-thirds of the MRP. The listing shows both prices so you can see the exact rupee saving on that title.
- Can I return a used book if I am not happy with the condition?
- Yes, within 7 days, if the copy differs from the condition grade and photos on the listing. Normal wear that was disclosed is not a return reason.
- Do you buy used books from customers in Nepal?
- Selectively — mostly current textbooks and popular titles in good condition. Send the list and photos through the contact page for a quote.
