A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada
A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada (1896–1977) was an Indian spiritual teacher who brought the Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition to the world, founding the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON). His translation-commentary Bhagavad-gita As It Is is among the most widely read English editions of the sacred text.
Dispatched in 1965 to take Krishna consciousness westward, he taught and published prolifically, writing dozens of books on the Bhagavatam and other scriptures. His open, egalitarian message of devotion, chant and service built a global movement, and his commentaries remain ISKCON's canonical texts.
