A. J. Woodman

A.J. Woodman is a British classicist and Emeritus Professor of Latin at the University of Durham, among the foremost editors and translators of Roman historians. His translation of Catiline's War, The Jugurthine War and the Histories brings Sallust's tense, archaising Latin into direct modern English.

Woodman is known for his technical mastery of how Roman historiography works, having authored a famous commentary on Tacitus's Annals. His translation serves both students meeting Sallust for the first time and scholars who turn to him as an authoritative authority.
