Abhijit Nadkarni and Soumitra Pathare

Abhijit Nadkarni is an Indian psychiatrist, educator and leader in mental health care, while Soumitra Pathare is an Indian psychiatrist and researcher on mental health policy and human rights. Together they address the lived experience of mental illness in the collection Life, Interrupted.

Nadkarni co-founded schemes that train ordinary people to deliver mental health care in community settings, a model that has transformed provision in low-resource environments. Pathare's research has shaped Indian mental health law and policy. Their collaborative writing connects clinical care, policy and the human story behind psychiatric treatment.
