Akimitsu Takagi

Akimitsu Takagi (1920–1995) was a Japanese crime writer credited with pioneering the classic mystery genre in Japan. His novels The Tattoo Murder and The Noh Mask Murder remain landmarks of Japanese detective fiction, admired for ingenious puzzle construction under gruesome surface plots.

Trained as an engineer, Takagi was influenced by the puzzle-mysteries of the West and helped establish the closed-circle detective novel in Japan. His work, finally reaching English readers, shows how the Japanese tradition transformed both the form's techniques and its deep structure.
