Alan Lee
Alan Lee is a British artist and illustrator celebrated for his book paintings of Middle-earth and Celtic myth. As a key conceptual artist for The Fall of Gondolin and the other Great Tales, and for the films of The Lord of the Rings, he shaped the visual look of Tolkien's world for millions of readers and viewers.
Lee studied at the Ealing School of Art and collaborated extensively with the Tolkien estate, also illustrating classic fairytales and The Lord of the Rings calendars. His delicate watercolour style — luminous, atmospheric and architectural — has made him arguably the definitive interpreter of Tolkien's imagination.
