Alan Sheridan

Alan Sheridan was a British translator who brought some of the most important modern French writing into English. His translation of The Notebook, The Proof and The Third Lie helped introduce Ágota Kristóf's spare masterpiece to readers worldwide.

Sheridan translated Michel Foucault, Jean-Paul Sartre, Jacques Lacan and many others with a career devoted to philosophical and literary texts. His renderings combine scholarly care with an ear for the rhythm of prose, making difficult French thinkers and novelists readable in English without flattening their voice.
