Alan Unterman

Alan Unterman is a scholar of religion and an expert on Hasidism, Kabbalah and Jewish mysticism, connected for many years with the University of Manchester and Israel. His anthology The Kabbalistic Tradition presents a wide selection of classical Jewish mystical texts in translation, with helpful explanation.

Unterman's editions open the inner world of the Zohar, the sefirot and the ecstatic practices of medieval Kabbalists to the English-speaking student. His work is valued for pairing textual scholarship with accessibility, making dense esoteric material navigable and meaningful.
