Alan Warner

Alan Warner is a Scottish novelist of the generation that revived the Scottish novel in the 1990s. His debut Morvern Callar, about a young woman on a remote west-coast town coping with the death of her boyfriend, became a cult classic and was adapted into a celebrated film.

A member of the loose grouping known as the new Scottish wave, Warner is admired for his punkish energy, deadpan lyricism and true feeling for music and misfits. Fellow writers and filmmakers have kept the novel alive as a touchstone of raw contemporary Scottish fiction.
