Albert Uderzo

Albert Uderzo (1927–2020) was a French comic-book artist, co-creator with René Goscinny of Asterix, one of the bestselling comic series in history. His clean, dynamic drafts of the indomitable Gaul launched a publishing empire that has sold more than 300 million albums worldwide, beginning with the great 1959 debut.

After Goscinny's death in 1977, Uderzo continued the series alone, drawing albums such as Asterix and the Actress until retirement. Beyond Asterix he had a long career as an illustrator in the golden age of French comics, and his expressive, elastic drawing style became a global visual language of comedy and adventure.
