Alex Danchev

Alex Danchev (1955–2016) was a British historian, a professor of international relations at the universities of Nottingham and St Andrews. His book 100 Artists' Manifestos collects a century of the radical programmes — abstract, surrealist, feminist, conceptual — through which artists declared their art.

Danchev was a biographer of Cézanne and Magritte, and an eminent commentator on art and war. His anthologies and studies cross the frontiers between the study of conflict and the history of the visual arts, and his National Art library connections produced an essential volume for anyone who has a need of modernism.
