Alexander Frater

Alexander Frater (1937–2020) was a travel writer and journalist (originally from Vanuatu) whose prose is among the most admired in the genre. Chasing the Monsoon is his classic account of travelling with the Indian summer monsoon from Kerala to Cherrapunji, chasing the great Asian storm across the country.

After a career in British journalism, including decades as a writer and foreign correspondent at major papers, Frater devoted his later years to luminous narrative non-fiction. Chasing the Monsoon is treasured for its wit, romance and the improbable central idea of pacing a journey to a weather system.
