Alexandre Dumas
Alexandre Dumas
Alexandre Dumas (1802–1870) was a French novelist and playwright whose swashbuckling classics made him one of the most popular storytellers ever published. The Count of Monte Cristo, The Three Musketeers and their sequels — written with collaborators and issued in serial form — define romantic adventure fiction to this day.
The son of a Napoleon-era general of Haitian descent, Dumas wrote more than a hundred plays and novels, turned châteaus, debts and revolutionary politics into a life as theatrical as his fiction. His were-history chronicles of revenge, loyalty and honour have been adapted for film, television and stage more times than almost any other author's work.
