Alison L. Strayer

Alison L. Strayer is a Canadian writer and translator who works from French. She is the translator of Annie Ernaux's A Girl's Story, The Young Man and other later books, having brought the Nobel laureate's extraordinary writing to English readers while being closely in dialogue with the author.

Strayer has long been connected with France-Britain literary circles and with various translation institutes. Her translations are praised for fidelity, tact and precise atmosphere — qualities that made Ernaux's English editions the standard all copies are measured against, a responsibility she took exceptionally seriously.
