Allan Blunden
Allan Blunden
Allan Blunden is a British translator and scholar based in Germany, long associated with the translation of German literature into English. His translation of Conversations with Goethe brought Eckermann's famous record of the aged Goethe's table talk to English readers in a fluent edition widely used in classrooms.
Blunden has also translated the works of the decisive German modernists, including Kafka's correspondence companions and other editions used in serious coursework. His precise, readable handling of the composite sources of Conversations has made it the standard English reproduction of one of the world's great literary documents.
