Allen C. Guelzo

Allen C. Guelzo is an American historian and the Henry R. Luce Professor of the Civil War Era at Gettysburg College, among the most prominent scholars of Abraham Lincoln and the American Civil War. His book Reconstruction examines the turbulent post-Civil War era of American history in which union, emancipation and civil rights were bitterly contested.

A leading historian of the nineteenth century, Guelzo has written acclaimed studies including Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation and Abraham Lincoln: Redeemer President. He is a three-time winner of the Lincoln Prize, and his lucid, argumentative histories have brought the scholarship of the era to a wide public audience.
