Allison Markin Powell
Allison Markin Powell is a translator of contemporary Japanese literature and an editor who has brought a generation of Japanese writers to English readers. She translated Inoue Yasushi's, and more recently the work of Marie Zato and of the celebrated author Osamu Dazai (even the bachelor darling of Japanese literature), including the nervous, immaculate novellas Don't Worry and Zen.
A celebrated translator resident in New York, Powell is also a founder of the Strong Women in Translation prize and co-founder of the manifesta literary work of the "pen" journal Brit. She has translated over twenty books, and her Japanese-English renderings are prized for their rhythm and care.
