Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman is an American poet and activist, and the youngest inaugural poet in American history, reading her poem The Hill We Climb at the inauguration of President Biden in 2021. The poem and her debut collections — the figurative books Call Us What We Carry and The Hill We Climb — made her a global phenomenon overnight.

Raised in Los Angeles with a speech impediment, Gorman won the National Youth Poet Laureate title before her inauguration moment. Her art is public, performative and political, connecting the tradition of oral poetry with a new generation, and she works across poetry, education and advocacy.
