Amitav Ghosh
Amitav Ghosh is an Indian novelist, essayist and academic of international stature, author of some of the most ambitious fiction and non-fiction of our time. His Ibis Trilogy — including Sea of Poppies, River of Smoke and Flood of Fire — rewrote the history of the opium wars and the Indian Ocean, while his Guardian-influenced works The Glass Palace and The Hungry Tide broadened the modern novel's geography.
Ghosh received the Padma Shri, the Sahitya Akademi Award and the Jnanpith, and his essays on climate — The Great Derangement — have made him a leading literary voice for the environment. His lyrical, encyclopaedic fiction, woven from archives and family history, has been translated into more than thirty languages.
