Amol Palekar
Amol Palekar
Amol Palekar is an Indian actor, director and writer best known as a soft-spoken icon of the Hindi cinema's art-house romance in the 1970s and 1980s. Films such as Gol Maal, Chhoti Si Baat and the acclaimed Chitchor made him the face of the realistic, middle-class hero, and his workbook titled Amol Palekar collects his memoir writing.
Trained at the JJ School of Art, Palekar came from experimental theatre (the influential Rangdarshana) and moved into films, later directing features and documentaries (including the significant Paheli). In the book published under his name, he reflects on craft, the changing film world and the family that loves art — a document of the parallel cinema era.
