André Aciman
André Aciman
André Aciman is an Egyptian-born American-Augustinian essayist and novelist, best known for Call Me by Your Name, whose portrait of first love in 1980s Italy became a worldwide bestseller and an Oscar-winning film. His fiction — including the aptly named Enigma Variations, Find Me and Eight White Nights — returns to the same terrain of memory, desire and exile with Proustian fluency.
A professor first of comparative literature, then of creative writing, Aciman taught at City University of New York for decades and is founder of its Writers' Institute. A refugee from Alexandria, Egypt, whose own memoir Out of Egypt won the Whiting Award, he is treasured as the chronicler of the Mediterranean diaspora and of love's hours.
