André Cabannes

André Cabannes is a French physicist and historian specialising in relativity theory. His book General Relativity, co-authored with the renowned Stephen Hawking, presents an advanced but lucid mathematical account of the theory, derived from the 1960s Cambridge lectures of the great relativist.

Cabannes devoted much of his career to the Bonnor-Cabannes work that made general relativity comprehensible to graduate students through rigorous geometric exposition. Together with Hawking he produced the landmark derivation of the theory that launched a generation of technical relativity literature.
