Andrew Bender

Andrew Bender is an American travel writer and editor who has contributed to the Lonely Planet series for decades, notably to the flagship Japan guides. He writes on food, cinema and anime as well as heritage, with the eye of a Japan-obsessive who has returned to the country dozens of times.

Bender has lived and worked in Tokyo and supplies the itinerary, restaurant and rail advice that makes the Japan guides so loved. His journalism on culture and travel appears in major consumer publications, and his name is one of the most recurrent in modern guidebook publishing.
