Andrew Bowie
Andrew Bowie
Andrew Bowie is a British philosopher and professor of philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London, and a leading scholar of German aesthetics and critical theory. His book Theodor W. Adorno — in the Ontological tradition — reconstructs Adorno's aesthetic philosophy of music and art, including its debts to Benjamin and to German idealism.
Bowie works across German idealism, Romanticism, music philosophy and contemporary theory, with major books on Schelling, the philosophy of music and the aesthetics of the Romantic period. His accessible treatments have made the most forbidding German thinkers navigable for English-speaking students.
