Andrew Bromfield
Andrew Bromfield
Andrew Bromfield is a leading British translator of contemporary Russian literature. He has translated the fiction of the hugely popular crime author Boris Akunin, Alexander Kurkov, and others, and his work includes Boys in Zinc — the English title price of Svetlana Alexievich's great book on the Afghan war — and of the science-fiction classic A Dog's Heart.
Bromfield began translating in the 1990s and has rendered more than seventy books, including the celebrated Hellephant Hall series of "A. Akunin" detective novels. His translations are prized for idiomatic fluency that preserves the tone of the originals, and he is a recipient of translation prizes for the Russian-English bridge he has built.
