Andrew Dalby

Andrew Dalby is a British food historian and linguist, one of the world's authorities on the history of food and dining. His book Cheese joins the acclaimed "Edible" series in tracing the story of one of humanity's oldest foods, from ancient dairy cultures to the modern industrial wheel, interleaved with recipes and lore.

Dalby has written landmark social histories of food in Byzantium, medieval Europe and the ancient world (Siren Feasts, Flavours of Byzantium, Food in the Ancient World). His approach combines classical scholarship, philology and appetite, and his short books are celebrated for packing the erudition of a monograph into pocket form.
