Andrew Hurley
Andrew Hurley
Andrew Hurley is an American literary translator best known for his renderings of the Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges. His editions of Collected Fictions, Fictions (with will), and the thousand pages of Borges's tales and essays, published by Penguin, have become the standard English versions, celebrated for fidelity and fluency.
A professor emeritus of English at the University of Puerto Rico, Hurley spent decades teaching and translating Latin American literature. His Borges, praised for capturing the Argentine master's baroque elegance, helped introduce the twentieth century's great fabulist to an entire new readership.
