Andrew Kahn
Andrew Kahn
Andrew Kahn is a British scholar of Russian literature, critic and professor of Russian at the University of Oxford. He is a leading authority on the short story across European literatures, and his book The Short Story traces the rise of the form from the tale of the folk to the age of Chekhov, Maupassant and Joyce.
Kahn has published widely on Pushkin, on eighteenth-century Russian literature and on the aesthetics of brevity. His criticism combines wit and massive erudition, and his teaching and writing have helped the short story — once slighted in the literary curriculum — claim its place as a major modern art.
