Andrew May

Andrew May is a British physicist and science writer who works at the popular level to explain the physical sciences. His book The Science of Music (in the "Hot Science" series) explains what music is physically — vibrations, tones, harmonics, the physics of sound and hearing — and why it moves us.

A DPhil from Oxford who has written extensively in the sci-com field, May is one of the contributors to the respected "Hot Science" and "Instant" series. His clear, compact treatments of everything from astrobiology to telepathy make hard science accessible to curious non-specialists.
