Andy Orchard
Andy Orchard
Andy Orchard is a British philologist, Rawlinson and Bosworth Professor of Anglo-Saxon at the University of Oxford, and one of the world's leading scholars of Old Norse and Old English. His verse translation of The Elder Edda — the great collection of Norse mythological and heroic poems — is the standard modern English version.
Orchard has written on Anglo-Saxon riddles, on the figure of the werewolf and on the Norse gods, and has edited major medieval texts. His energetic, alliterative translation preserves the ring and the wit of the Eddic poems, making the world of Odin and Thor vivid for contemporary readers.
