Buddhisagar
Buddhisagar is one of the leading voices of the new generation of Nepali fiction, celebrated for prose that fuses the rawness of rural life with deep human tenderness. His debut novel Karnali Blues (2010), set on the banks of the Karnali river in Nepalgunj, chronicles the relationship between a father and son navigating poverty, illness and a world slowly changing beneath them, and was hailed by critics as a watershed in contemporary Nepali writing.
Born in 1981 in Nepalgunj, Buddhisagar grew up in the mid-western frontier region whose culture and language run through everything he writes. His follow-up novel Firfire (2014) confirmed his standing among the country's most read novelists, and he has since continued to publish fiction marked by vigorous, restless storytelling, while also working as a poet, playwright and screenwriter. Widely admired for giving the higher reaches of Nepali prose a street-level honesty, he is today one of the most influential writers of his generation in Nepal.
