Joseph Murphy

Joseph Murphy (1898–1981) was an Irish-born American minister and author, and one of the most influential voices in the New Thought movement. His best-known book, The Power of Your Subconscious Mind (1963), argued that the subconscious mind can be harnessed to heal the body, attract prosperity and transform daily life — ideas that helped launch the modern self-help era and are still widely read today.

Ordained as a Divine Science minister and based largely in Los Angeles, Murphy combined spiritual teaching, science and practical psychology in accessible, parable-like prose, offering "mental and spiritual laws" for everyday living. He wrote dozens of books — including Miracle of Your Mind and The Power of Your Subconscious Mind — that were translated into many languages and reached audiences worldwide. Decades after his death, his work remains a cornerstone for readers exploring prayer, affirmation and the creative power of inner thought.
