What is a QR code?

A QR (Quick Response) code is a square grid of black modules that stores text - a link, a message, a Wi-Fi password, contact details or a payment request. Any modern phone camera can scan it and act on the content instantly, with no app needed. The code you make here is just a picture of whatever you type.

Types you can create

This tool covers the four most useful kinds for Nepal: a URL or link (open a website, menu or form), plain text (a message or note), a Wi-Fi login (guests join your network by scanning), and an eSewa/Khalti payment request (your wallet number, amount and note). Pick the type from the tabs and fill in the fields.

Understanding error correction

QR codes store redundant data so they still scan when partly dirty, covered or printed small. Levels run L (~7% recoverable), M (~15%), Q (~25%) and H (~30%). Higher levels make the code denser but tougher - use Q or H for anything printed, stamped or placed where it might get scuffed.

Where to use QR codes in Nepal

Shops print them on receipts and counters for eSewa/Khalti payments, restaurants put menu links on tables, schools share admission forms, and event organisers use them for tickets and check-in. A QR on a visiting card or poster is a quick way to share your site or social profile.

Print sizing and quiet margin

Keep a blank "quiet zone" border around the code - that is the quiet margin slider - or scanners may misread it. On paper, a QR should be at least 2 x 2 cm, and roughly 1 cm per metre of viewing distance. Export at 512px or more for anything larger than a business card.

Private and offline-friendly

Everything is generated in your browser, so the link, password or wallet number you enter is never uploaded to a server. You can create codes on a phone without internet access and save the PNG for later printing or sharing.

Made for Nepal, one scan away

Where a free QR code saves typing a long URL or copying a payment ID by hand.

Shops & restaurants

Print a QR on the counter that opens your menu, Facebook page or eSewa/Khalti payment link - customers scan instead of typing.

Events & tickets

Concert, seminar and puja organisers encode a check-in link or ticket ID that volunteers scan at the gate.

WiFi for cafés

Put a WiFi QR on the table so guests connect without asking for the password - join with one tap.

Business cards

Freelancers and agents add a vCard QR that saves their number and email straight to a phone.

NGOs & notices

Field teams share a donation or form link on a poster in rural areas where typing a URL is hard.

Schools & colleges

Admins share a result, admission or fee link via QR on circulars sent to parents.

What is a QR code generator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A QR code turns a link, text, WiFi login or contact card into a square image a phone camera scans. Scolar’s QR Code Generator is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: paste your URL, WiFi or vCard, pick a size and PNG or SVG, and download a sharp code ready for print or screen. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The code is drawn in your browser, so there is no server storing the link or contact and no account to create. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you make unlimited codes.

How to make a QR code, step by step

  • Paste the link, text, WiFi details or vCard you want to encode.
  • Pick a size and format - PNG for print, SVG for scaling to a banner.
  • Download the QR and place it on your poster, counter or card; scanning works offline.

Payments and posters in Nepal

Encode your eSewa, Khalti or bank link so customers pay by scanning at the counter, or put a menu or Facebook link on a poster. PNG stays sharp at 512–1024px for print, and SVG scales to a banner without blur — all generated offline after the page loads.

“Nepali shops should not pay for a QR just to take eSewa or show a menu. Type the link, download the PNG, print — free, on any phone.”

QR codes scanned across Nepal

We stuck a WiFi QR and an eSewa QR on every table. Customers connect and pay themselves — no typing, no confusion, and it is free.

For our music night I encoded the ticket link as QR on the poster. At the gate volunteers just scanned phones — smooth entry.

I put a vCard QR on my card so clients save my contact in one tap. Cheaper than reprinting cards and it looks modern.

How it works

1

Pick what the QR should contain - a link, plain text, your Wi-Fi login or an eSewa/Khalti payment request.

2

Type the details and adjust size, quiet margin and error correction to suit print or screen.

3

Download the PNG and paste it into posters, menus, receipts, cards or slides.

Why use this tool?

  • Generated entirely in your browser - nothing you type is sent to any server.

  • Higher error correction (Q or H) keeps the code scannable even if part of it is covered or damaged.

  • Keep the quiet margin so scanners read the code cleanly, especially on print.

  • Use at least a 512px export for anything printed larger than a business card.

Frequently asked questions

What types of QR code can I make here?

You can make four kinds: a link or URL, plain text, a Wi-Fi login (with SSID and password), and an eSewa/Khalti payment request containing your wallet number, amount and note.

Can customers pay by scanning the eSewa/Khalti QR?

The QR encodes your payment request as clear text - wallet number, amount and note - so whoever scans it sees exactly where to send the money. For app-to-app deep links, generate the code from inside the wallet app itself.

Do the QR codes expire?

Never. A QR code is just a picture of your content - as long as the link or text inside still works, the code works forever.

What is error correction and which level should I pick?

Error correction lets a partly damaged or covered code still scan. L recovers ~7%, M ~15%, Q ~25% and H ~30%. Use Q or H for printed material and M is fine for screen display.

What size should I print?

A scanned QR should be at least 2 x 2 cm on paper, about 1 cm per metre of viewing distance. The 512px or 1024px exports stay sharp for posters and banners - and keep the quiet margin so scanners read it cleanly.
