What does "corrupted PDF" mean?

A PDF is really a structured container with an index (the cross-reference table) pointing to each page and object. Corruption happens when that index is broken - perhaps the download was interrupted, a USB was pulled out mid-save, or an email client chopped the file. The pages may still be intact; the file just can no longer be opened correctly.

How this repair works

The tool loads your file with pdf-lib, which is tolerant of minor damage: it re-parses whatever objects it can read and rebuilds a clean, valid PDF from them, then saves that fresh copy. It is the digital equivalent of carefully re-gluing a book whose table of contents fell out.

When repair can succeed

Files with broken internal structure, missing or damaged cross-reference tables, or small inconsistencies are the best candidates and are often recovered fully. If the page content itself survived, you get a working PDF back.

When repair cannot help

If a file was truncated - for example only the first 30% downloaded - there are simply no bytes left for the missing pages, so they cannot be conjured back. In that case the tool tells you how many readable pages it found (often zero) rather than pretending success.

Check the recovered page count

After repair the tool reports how many pages it recovered. Always open the new file and skim through it to confirm every expected page is present before you delete the original - recovery is best-effort, not a guarantee.

Your file stays private

Repairing runs entirely in your browser; the damaged PDF is never uploaded to any server. That matters for confidential documents like transcripts or legal papers, and it means the tool also works offline once the page has loaded.

What is a repair-PDF tool, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A repair-PDF tool rebuilds a damaged or unreadable PDF so it opens again. Scolar's Repair PDF is free and browser-only: upload the broken file and get a fixed copy. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The processing runs in your browser, so your files never leave your device and no account is needed. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you process unlimited documents.

Recovering files in Nepal

A PDF sent over a flaky connection or saved on a failing USB can break. Fixing it in your browser recovers the document privately and works offline after loading - no trip to a cyber café with internet.

Frequently asked questions

Is this PDF repair tool free?

Yes. Repairing PDFs on Scolar is completely free, with no watermarks and no sign-up.

What kinds of damage can be fixed?

Files with broken internal structure, missing cross-reference tables or minor corruption can often be recovered by re-parsing and rebuilding them into a clean PDF. The tool reports how many readable pages it found so you can verify the result.

Why can some files not be repaired?

If the file was truncated - for example a download that only partially completed - the bytes for the missing pages no longer exist on your device, so they cannot be recovered. In that case you need to obtain a complete copy of the original.

Will repair recover every page?

It recovers whatever pages are still intact. The tool shows the recovered page count so you can compare against what you expect, and you should open the result to confirm before discarding the original.

Is my damaged file uploaded anywhere?

No. The repair runs locally in your browser, so even sensitive documents never leave your device, and the tool works offline once loaded.

Should I keep the original file?

Yes - always keep your original until you have opened the repaired copy and confirmed every expected page is present. Repair is best-effort and cannot guarantee a perfect result for every damaged file.
