NEB does not publish an official GPA-to-percentage formula, so this uses the common linear estimate (GPA ÷ 4 × 100) plus your closest letter-grade band. Universities abroad may apply their own conversion.

Why convert GPA to percentage?

Many scholarship forms, job applications and university admissions in Nepal and abroad still ask for a percentage, even though NEB now prints GPA and letter grades on your marksheet. This tool gives you a fair estimate so you can fill those forms without manually doing the maths.

The linear conversion formula

The simplest and most widely used estimate is: percentage = (GPA ÷ 4) × 100. So a GPA of 3.2 becomes 80%, and a perfect 4.0 becomes 100%. It is a straight-line mapping of the 4.0 scale onto a 100-point scale, which is why it is called the linear method.

NEB does not publish an official formula

There is no single government-sanctioned GPA-to-percentage equation in Nepal. Different institutions apply different conversions, so any figure you produce is an approximation. Always check whether the organisation you are applying to has its own prescribed method before submitting.

Understanding the letter-grade band

Because GPA is derived from letter grades, the tool also shows the closest NEB grade (A+ down to D) and its official mark band. A GPA of 3.2, for example, sits in the B+ band of 70-80%. This helps you sanity-check the percentage against the grade you actually earned.

When you need an official conversion

For anything legally binding - transcripts sent abroad, equivalence certificates, government forms - ask your school, college or the relevant board for an official conversion or an equivalence letter. The estimate here is for planning and informal use, not as a certified document.

GPA to percentage for abroad applications

Foreign universities frequently request both your GPA and a percentage equivalent. Provide the percentage using their accepted conversion if they specify one; otherwise state the linear estimate and, more importantly, include your official transcript showing the letter grades so they can interpret it themselves.

What is a GPA to percentage calculator, and how does this free Nepal tool work?

A GPA to percentage calculator converts a grade point average on a 4.0 (or 10.0) scale into a percentage. Scolar's tool is a free, browser-only tool for Nepal: enter your GPA and the scale your college uses, and see the percentage instantly. No sign-up, no watermark, nothing uploaded.

Why it is free, with no sign-up and unlimited use

The conversion runs in your browser, so your grades are never uploaded and no account is needed. That keeps the tool 100% free, adds no watermark, asks for no email, and lets you convert unlimited times.

How to convert GPA to %, step by step

  • Enter your GPA (for example 3.4).
  • Select your scale - 4.0 or 10.0 as your college uses.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert GPA to percentage in Nepal?

The common estimate is percentage = (GPA ÷ 4) × 100. A GPA of 3.2 works out to about 80%, and a perfect 4.0 becomes 100%.

Is there an official NEB GPA to percentage formula?

No. NEB does not publish a single official conversion, so the linear method is only an estimate. Different institutions may apply their own conversion, so check the requirement you are applying to.

What percentage is a 4.0 GPA?

Using the linear formula, a 4.0 GPA equals 100%. On the NEB scale a 4.0 is the A+ grade, which corresponds to the 90-100% mark band.

Why does the result show a letter-grade band?

Because GPA comes from letter grades, the tool shows the closest NEB grade and its official mark band so you can check the percentage against the grade you actually earned.

Can I use this percentage on official documents?

For informal planning, yes. For legally binding use such as transcripts or equivalence certificates, get an official conversion from your college or the relevant board.

How do I convert GPA for a foreign university?

Use the conversion the university specifies if they give one, otherwise provide the linear estimate alongside your official transcript showing the letter grades so they can interpret it themselves.
