Tribhuvan University Student Portal: How to Apply for Transcript, Retotaling and Exam Forms Online
TU has moved registration, transcripts, retotaling, exam forms and convocation onto one online portal. A step by step guide, including the 15 day retotaling deadline students keep missing.
Tribhuvan University has moved its core student services onto one online portal, and the Office of the Controller of Examinations has told students to use it directly rather than going through an agent or a middleman at the campus gate.
The portal is at student.exam.tu.edu.np, and it handles five services that used to mean a trip to Balkhu and a long queue.
THE FIVE SERVICES ON THE TU STUDENT PORTAL
Student registration. This puts your TU registration on record. Your campus has to create your student ID first.
Transcript and provisional certificate. Official academic documents. All mark sheets and your registration card must be uploaded as PDF files.
Retotaling. A recount of your marks. It must be applied for within 15 days of the result being published.
Exam form. Filling the examination form online, available for 2023 registration and onwards.
Convocation. Applying for convocation through the convocation service login.
Tribhuvan University serves close to half a million students, which is why it is pushing everything through one login rather than campus by campus paperwork.
WHY THE OFFICE SAYS TO FILE IT YOURSELF
The notice makes one point clearly. Fill the forms personally. That is not bureaucratic preference. Three of the most common reasons a student document is rejected or delayed are avoidable data entry errors.
- A name spelled differently from the one on the registration card.
- The wrong subject or subject code selected on the exam form.
- A mark sheet uploaded as a photo rather than a readable PDF.
Someone filling the form on your behalf has no way to catch those. You do.
THE 15 DAY RETOTALING WINDOW
This is the deadline students miss most often. Retotaling has to be requested within 15 days of the result being published, and the window is counted from the publication date, not from the day you happened to see your result.
If you believe a paper was marked wrong, decide quickly. Check your mark sheet against your own sense of the exam, talk to your subject teacher, and apply inside the window. After 15 days the option closes and no appeal reopens it.
GETTING A TRANSCRIPT WITHOUT A SECOND TRIP
Transcripts are the service that most often bounces back. Before you submit:
- Scan every semester or year mark sheet, not just the final one.
- Scan the registration card, both sides.
- Convert each file to PDF. Not JPG, not a screenshot, not a photo of a screen.
- Check that every page is readable at normal zoom, including the seal.
- Keep the payment receipt and your application number until the document is in your hand.
Students applying abroad should start this early. A transcript request filed in the same week a university deadline falls is a transcript request that will miss it.
IF YOUR CAMPUS HAS NOT CREATED YOUR STUDENT ID
Registration on the portal depends on your campus creating a student ID for you first. If the portal will not let you register, the block is almost always at the campus, not the university. Contact your campus administration, ask them to create the ID, then try again.
The Office of the Controller of Examinations can be reached at tuexam@tribhuvan-university.edu.np, and the examination website is tuexam.edu.np.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the TU student portal address? It is student.exam.tu.edu.np, run by the Office of the Controller of Examinations in Balkhu, Kathmandu.
How long do I have to apply for retotaling? 15 days from the date the result is published.
Can I fill the TU exam form for any batch? The online exam form covers 2023 registration and onwards. Older batches should confirm the process with their campus.
Do I still need to visit Balkhu? For these five services the application itself is online. Document collection, and any correction the portal rejects, may still require a visit.
Why is my transcript application taking so long? The most common causes are missing mark sheets, unreadable uploads and a name mismatch with the registration card. Check all three before assuming the delay is at the university's end.
