Good to know

For US admissions

Expected by many US undergraduate and graduate schools.

Valid 5 years

Your score stays valid for five years from the test date.

Sent electronically

Reports go straight to the institutions you choose.

Measures the reasoning skills universities actually weigh.

What ACT is

The ACT is accepted interchangeably with the SAT by US universities. It differs in shape: four multiple-choice sections including a dedicated Science reasoning section, with an optional Writing test, and a composite reported out of 36. Students who read quickly and are comfortable interpreting charts often prefer it to the SAT.

Test format

English, Math, Reading and Science sections, plus an optional Writing test. Scores from each section are averaged into a composite out of 36.

Where to take it

ACT sittings are held at a small number of authorised centres in Kathmandu on the international test dates.

How ACT is used in admissions

Schools use the score alongside your academics, essays and recommendations. A strong result offsets a weaker GPA, but it rarely carries an application on its own.

Sending scores to universities

You choose recipients and reports are sent electronically, often free for a limited number of schools. Send to every likely school early so deadlines are never the bottleneck.

What a good score looks like

Research the median score at your target schools. Preparing against that specific target beats chasing a generic top score.

What students say

Preparing for ACT with Scolar's free material gave me the structure I needed. I hit the score my offer required on the first attempt.

Most Nepali students lose easy marks through poor time management, not lack of ability. Build a realistic mock under timed conditions every week and review where you slipped.

Frequently asked

1 How long are ACT scores valid?

Scores are valid for five years from the test date, so an early attempt still counts when you apply later.

2 How many times can I take it?

Multiple attempts are allowed and many students improve on a second sit. Space them so you can act on practice-test feedback.

3 Do universities see all my scores?

Policy varies. Some superscore (best section across sittings) while others see every attempt. Check each school's policy before booking.

4 When should I take it?

Aim for 6 to 12 months before your intake so results land before deadlines and you have time for a retake if needed.

5 What is a good score?

Aim for the median score at your target schools rather than a generic top score; prepare against that specific target.
