What GMAT is
The GMAT Focus Edition is the current form of the business-school entrance test, scored 205–805. It runs two hours fifteen minutes across three equally weighted sections and lets you choose the order in which you sit them. For Nepali applicants targeting a funded MBA abroad, the GMAT is usually the single largest lever in the application after work experience.
Test format
Quantitative Reasoning (21 questions, 45 minutes), Verbal Reasoning (23 questions, 45 minutes) and Data Insights (20 questions, 45 minutes). You may bookmark and revisit questions within a section and change up to three answers per section.
Where to take it
Delivered at test centres in Kathmandu and as GMAT Online from home. Slots are limited, so book several weeks out.
How GMAT Focus Edition is used in admissions
Schools use the score alongside your academics, essays and recommendations. A strong result offsets a weaker GPA, but it rarely carries an application on its own.
Sending scores to universities
You choose recipients and reports are sent electronically, often free for a limited number of schools. Send to every likely school early so deadlines are never the bottleneck.
What a good score looks like
Research the median score at your target schools. Preparing against that specific target beats chasing a generic top score.

Most Nepali students lose easy marks through poor time management, not lack of ability. Build a realistic mock under timed conditions every week and review where you slipped.

Frequently asked
1 GMAT or GRE for an MBA?
Most business schools now accept either. Take whichever practice test you score better on relative to the school average.
2 How long are GMAT scores valid?
Scores are valid for five years from the test date, so an early attempt still counts when you apply later.
3 How many times can I take it?
Multiple attempts are allowed and many students improve on a second sit. Space them so you can act on practice-test feedback.
4 Do universities see all my scores?
Policy varies. Some superscore (best section across sittings) while others see every attempt. Check each school's policy before booking.
5 When should I take it?
Aim for 6 to 12 months before your intake so results land before deadlines and you have time for a retake if needed.
6 What is a good score?
Aim for the median score at your target schools rather than a generic top score; prepare against that specific target.
