Why use this tool?

  • Flesch Reading Ease runs 0-100; higher means easier to read.

  • Flesch-Kincaid grade approximates the US school grade needed to understand the text.

  • Lexical density is the share of unique words - academic writing is usually 40-55%.

  • All analysis runs on your device, so your draft never leaves the browser.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good reading-ease score?

General reader-facing text scores 60-70 (standard). Academic writing often sits 30-50, which is "hard" but normal for the genre.

How accurate is syllable counting?

It uses a standard English heuristic, so it is very close for most words but can slip on unusual proper nouns. The grade level is an estimate, not exact.

What does lexical density tell me?

A higher share of unique words means denser, more academic text. Very high density can feel heavy; mixing in common words improves flow.

Is my text uploaded anywhere?

No. The text stays in your browser and is analysed locally as you type.
