What a word counter is for

A word counter turns a block of writing into the numbers that matter: how many words, characters, sentences, paragraphs and minutes of reading. It is the quickest way to check you are inside a limit - an essay of 500 words, a college application of 1,000 characters, or a Facebook post under 280 characters - before you submit.

Counting Nepali (Devanagari) text

Devanagari text is counted just like English here: words are separated by spaces and the danda "।" is recognised as a sentence ending alongside the full stop. Whether you write in नेपाली, हिन्दी or English, the tile updates the instant you type or paste, so you can keep both scripts within their limits.

Characters with and without spaces

The "Characters" tile counts every keystroke including spaces, while "No spaces" strips them out. Social platforms and SMS often count characters with spaces, but some forms and bios limit the visible letters only. Keeping an eye on both helps you fit tight limits without trimming meaning.

Reading time and why it matters

The reading-time figure estimates how long a page or post will take to read, using a roughly 200-words-per-minute pace. It is a handy check for blog posts, notices and assignments: if the count says 12 minutes, your reader probably will not finish it. Aim for the shortest text that still says what matters.

Common word limits in Nepal

Nepali students and applicants regularly hit limits such as 200 words for a scholarship essay, 150 words for a letter, or a set character count on an online form. Teachers also use word counts to set and check homework. This tool lets you hit those targets exactly rather than guessing.

Your text stays private

Everything you type or paste is processed inside your own browser and never leaves your device. There is no account, no upload and no server storing your words, so you can safely draft personal statements, messages and notes here without any privacy worry.

Frequently asked questions

Does this counter work for Nepali and Hindi (Devanagari) text?

Yes. Words are counted by spaces and the danda "।" is treated as a sentence ending, so नेपाली and हिन्दी text is counted correctly alongside English. The counts update live as you type in any of these scripts.

Why do "characters" and "characters without spaces" differ?

The characters tile includes every space and line break, while the "no spaces" tile counts only the visible letters and punctuation. Use the first when a platform limits total length, and the second when a form limits letters only.

How is the reading time calculated?

It divides your word count by a standard pace of about 200 words per minute and rounds up to the nearest minute. It is an estimate for planning - your actual reading speed and the script (Devanagari can read a little slower) will vary.

Does the counter include the danda (।) in the character count?

Yes. The danda "।" is a punctuation character and is counted in both the characters and sentences totals, just like a full stop in English. It is part of your text, so it counts toward any character limit you must meet.

Is my text saved or uploaded anywhere?

No. All counting happens on your device in the browser. Nothing is stored, sent or shared, so you can draft personal or sensitive writing here with confidence.
